Jim's insatiable passion for fishing 'bit him' at the tender and very impressionable age of 6. As he grew older, it was apparent to people in their respective professional fields of expertise that Jim was exceedingly gifted in all aspects of mathematics, algebra, biological engineering, physics and chemistry, to name a few, that would enable Jim to enter the field of rocketry. Jim excelled in this endeavor, up and until he reached the 'no fear' age of 14 where he almost blew up the family home while in the process of analyzing different properties of rocket fuels. Fearing for the lives of the family; and, that the structural integrity of the home remains in tack, a very nervous father immediately encouraged Jim to reconsider another career endeavor. Jim elected to focus on engineering in the forest industry. As Jim's father's expertise was highly sought after in the sawmill and pulp and paper industry, it seemed only natural for Jim to follow in his father's footsteps. But Jim's insatiable drive for learning only served to encourage his skills. He became quite accomplished in home construction, cabinetry, boat building, designed and built landing nets, custom cars, built fishing rods, typed flies; and, even ventured into espalier fruit trees and the raising of mason bees. Jim was very much a humanitarian, donating his services to assist others. He abundantly gave to charities, food and clothing drives, donations to soup kitchens and food banks. He contributed his knowledge and professional expertise to help causes for the preservation of the environment and for the protection of the community.
The rich tapestry of Jim's diverse and extensive achievements continued up to the date of his untimely death.
The Fine Art of Fly Line Splicing is but a very incredibly small fraction of Jim's accumulated knowledge. Jim derived great delight in sharing his wisdom; and, he specially loved to teach children. It is our greatest wish that you enjoy the book as much as Jim enjoyed sharing his wisdom written upon the pages.
